The town of Massarella is situated on the south west edges of a lake and marshland area called Padule of Fucecchio which is the largest internal marshland in Italy and is a protected nature preserve. From Massarella it is easy to explore the southern part of the marsh area and see birds like Grand Cormoran, Cigogne blanche,Héron cendré, Grande Aigrette, Spatule blanche, Aigrette garzette, Héron garde-boeufs, Canard colvert and Busard des roseaux.
