Although the water purification ponds of Le Vasche dell’Arnetta are situated at the edge of a busy highway and close to Milan Malpensa airport, the strategic location on a place where the migratory routes in a north/south and east/west direction intersect, makes it an excellent place for birding. Many migratory birds make stop here. But the various lakes surrounded by dense reeds and the nearby small Arno stream make it an interesting site to watch birds throughout the year. Among the birds you can encounter are Sarcelle d'été, Canard souchet, Fuligule nyroca, Échasse blanche, Chevalier culblanc, Rousserolle turdoïde, Grèbe castagneux, Milan noir, Faucon hobereau and Rossignol philomèle.

Italiano: Le Vasche di fitodepurazione dell'Arnetta di Sant'Antonino Ticino, presso il Torrente Arno, nel comune di Castano Primo, è un ottimo luogo per gli appassionati di ornitologia in quanto costituisce un vero e proprio Hot Spot per l’avifauna migratrice. Infatti proprio in questa zona del Parco del Ticino si incrociano le rotte migratorie in direzione Nord/ Sud ed Est/Ovest. I vari laghetti, circondati da fitti canneti sono diventati il habitat ideale per lo svernamento e la deposizione delle uova per moltissime specie di uccelli, che popolano appunto questa zona durante tutto l’anno.

Le Vasche dell’Arnetta are located between Milan Malpensa airport and the town of Castano Primo. The ponds are just a few steps from the Malpensa highway. Exit at Lonate Pozzolo and at the roundabout take the first road on the left. Click on the P in the map for directions. Park on the side of the road and continuing on foot to explore the pools. Note that this is not a quiet place with the cars whizzing by on the highway and the planes flying over at very low altitude.

A pochi passi dalla superstrada di Malpensa (si esce a Lonate Pozzolo e alla rotonda si prende la prima strada sulla sinistra, parcheggiando sul ciglio della strada dopo poche decine di metri e proseguendo a piedi in direzione delle vasche).
