Lago di Sibolla is a small but important reserve for water birds. The area is largely made up of marshland, which is surrounded by both cultivated and uncultivated fields, while the southern part of the basin is wooded. Many species of birds can be observed, the best time to visit is the breeding season. The reserve, which lies on the migration routes of almost all bird species passing through the Mediterranean, also plays an important role for aquatic birds, especially as a resting and feeding habitat. Sibolla houses one of the most beautiful heronries of Tuscany where there are almost all the species of herons of Italy (Héron cendré, Grande Aigrette, Bihoreau gris, Aigrette garzette and Héron garde-boeufs). Other birds you can see here are Râle d'eau, Busard des roseaux, Ibis falcinelle, Spatule blanche and Flamant rose.

Italiano: Il Lago di Sibolla è una piccola ma importante riserva per gli uccelli acquatici. L'area è in gran parte costituita da zone paludose, circondate da campi coltivati e incolti, mentre la parte meridionale del bacino è boscosa. Si possono osservare molte specie di uccelli, il momento più consono è quando nidificano. La Riserva, che si trova sulle linee di migrazione di quasi tutte le specie ornitiche di passaggio sul Mediterraneo, riveste anche un importante ruolo per l'avifauna acquatica, soprattutto quale habitat di sosta e di alimentazione. In particolare Sibolla ospita oggi una delle più belle garzaie della Toscana dove sono presenti quasi tutte le specie di aironi della fauna italiana ( Héron cendré , Grande Aigrette , Bihoreau gris , Aigrette garzette , Héron garde-boeufs ) e in gran parte vi si riproducono. Altri uccelli che si possono osservare sono: Râle d'eau , Busard des roseaux , Ibis falcinelle , Spatule blanche , Flamant rose .

Lake Sibolla is a place where I often go to take pictures, the birds are quite numerous but they can only be observed from a distance. So for taking pictures you need a camera with a good lens.
Lake Sibolla is open to the public on weekends and holidays with variable hours throughout the year.
