Capraia is an Italian island, the northwesternmost of the seven islands of the Tuscan Archipelago, and the third largest after Elba and Giglio. Capraia is 62 kilometres from the city of Livorno, and 32 kilometres northwest of the island of Elba. Capraia is of volcanic origin and its highest point is 466 metres above sea level. It is 8 kilometres long, 4 kilometres wide and has a coastline of 30 kilometres. The island is part of the Arcipelago Toscano National Park and marine sanctuary and is a great place for birding. Walking through the rugged and wild landscape, dominated by Mediterranean scrub you can see many birds, also rare ones. Best time to visit is during bird migration when the birding can be spectacular. See the birdlist below.

Italiano: Giungere a Capraia significa sbarcare in un luogo incontaminato e selvaggio, il cui paese è un vero angolo di paradiso fuori dal tempo. L’isola di Capraia, parte dal 1996 del Parco Nazionale dell’Arcipelago Toscano. Capraia presenta alcune caratteristiche ambientali simili a quelle delle altre isole del Parco dell’Arcipelago Toscano. Elba, Pianosa, Giglio, Montecristo, Giannutri e Gorgona sono l’habitat preferito dai rapaci: sono infatti presenti il gheppio, le poiane ed il falco pellegrino.

The island is accessible by ferries that depart from the port of Livorno. The crossing takes around 3 hours. The island's small harbour, Porto di Capraia, is connected to the village by the one and only asphalted road on the island. The rest of the island can be best explored by walking. There are enough walking trails to fill five days, but a 3 day visit allows you to see the most interesting areas. On the map you see a 12,5 km circular walk departing from the harbour.

Italiano: L'isola è raggiungibile con i traghetti che partono dal porto di Livorno. La traversata dura circa 3 ore. Il porticciolo dell'isola, Porto di Capraia, è collegato al paese dall'unica strada asfaltata dell'isola. Il resto dell'isola può essere esplorato al meglio camminando. Ci sono abbastanza sentieri da percorrere per cinque giorni, ma una visita di 3 giorni ti permette di vedere le zone più interessanti. Sulla mappa si vede un percorso circolare di 12,5 km con partenza dal porto.
