Description
Burci were large wooden cargo boats between 20 and 35 meters long and characterized by a flat bottom, the most suitable for river and lagoon navigation where the seabed is often very low. The burci were used along the river Sile until the seventies of the twentieth century. With the transition to road transport, many boats were abandoned and the wrecks rest at the Burci Cemetery. Today this place is surrounded by greenery and is a nice place for walking and birding.

Italiano: I burci furono utilizzati lungo il Sile fino agli anni Settanta del Novecento, un aspetto che rese il Veneto una delle ultime regioni italiane ad abbandonare il trasporto fluviale tradizionale. Con il passaggio a quello su strada, molte imbarcazioni furono abbandonate a loro stesse, come accadde a quelle che oggi riposano al Cimitero dei burci nel comune di Casier, un sito archeologico più unico che raro. Oggi questo luogo è immerso nel verde ed è un bel posto per passeggiate e birdwatching.

The Cimitero dei burci, can be reached both from the center of Casier and from Treviso thanks to the paths created by the body that deals with the Regional Natural Park. If you decide to reach Casier by car, you can park near the port and then continue on foot; the route is about a kilometer and a half long and is almost entirely surrounded by nature. The path is also passable by bike and is suitable for everyone. If you are in Treviso and you do not have a car available or you want to spend a day outdoors and actively, you can also reach the Cimitero dei burci on foot or by bike following the course of the Sile. The route, just over 13 kilometers long round trip, winds along the Alzaia or Restera

Italiano: Il Cimitero dei burci, che si trova leggermente più a nord rispetto al cuore del comune, è raggiungibile sia dal centro di Casier sia da Treviso grazie ai percorsi realizzati dall’ente che si occupa del Parco naturale regionale. Se decidete di raggiungere Casier in auto, potete parcheggiare nei pressi del porto e poi proseguire a piedi; il percorso è lungo circa un chilometro e mezzo ed è quasi interamente immerso nella natura. Il sentiero è percorribile anche in bicicletta ed è adatto a tutti. Se vi trovate a Treviso e non avete un’auto a disposizione o volete trascorrere una giornata all’aria aperta e in modo attivo, potete raggiungere il Cimitero dei burci anche a piedi o in bicicletta seguendo il corso del Sile. Il tragitto, lungo poco più di 13 chilometri tra andata e ritorno, si snoda lungo l’Alzaia o Restera.
