Amram's Pillars is one of the most beautiful natural sites of the Arava desert area north of Eilat. The soft Nubian Sandstone pillars are the result of sandstone erosion. With no cellular reception or any sign of civilization, Amram's Pillars are the place to experience the desert in its full magnitude. The area around the campsite and the trailhead to Mt. Amir are the best sites for the elusive Roselin du Sinaï as well as interesting desert species like Perdrix de Hey, Scrub Warbler, Fauvette naine and Traquet à capuchon. The best time to visit is between late autumn and early spring.
During spring migration don't forget to look up. Like most places around Eilat many birds of prey and storks can be seen passing overhead.

Amram's Pillars are located 20 km north of Eilat. To get there take the road to the west of road 90 just opposite the turn off to K20 salt ponds. The area is a protected nature reserve. Make sure to stay only on marked tracks/trails and leave before darkness. The dirt road leading to the pillars is suitable for small vehicles, but can be rugged at points, especially after flash floods. There is no cellular service or any facilities near the pillars. Pack water and food for the trip. Click on the P in the map for directions or coordinates.
