Description
Hopeland is part of the Wexford Harbour and Slobs special protection area and in winter it regularly holds nationally important numbers of Bernache cravant and Tadorne de Belon.
Low tide is best for the most variety of species, particularly waders, but high tide is also good for large roosting flocks and for ducks such as Garrot à oeil d'or, Harelde boréale and Harle huppé. Faucon émerillon can be readily encountered in the area in winter, while Busard Saint-Martin can also be observed on occasion.

The Hopeland area is easily accessed by driving north from Rosslare Strand village with multiple parking options, either in the village itself or by the rock wall at the top of Hopeland. Click on a P in the map for directions.

Hopeland has recently become a regular site for Spatule blanche in winter with 1-6 birds seen over the last few years. Sightings of Hibou des marais and Busard des roseaux are also becoming more frequent.
Other rarities seen recently include Avocette élégante, Bécasseau semipalmé and Bécasseau de Bonaparte.
