A walk up the hills W of Amopi Karpathos can deliver some surprising birds.

Description

The southern part of Karpathos is not a generally good for birding, in Amopi snorkeling is rather the quality. Despite this, a walk up the hills can be rewarded with Fauvette mélanocéphale , Pie-grièche à tête rousse , Cochevis huppé , Traquet oreillard and Perdrix choukar. And from the highest spot there is a great view over the bay. When in Amopi it can also be worth looking for Puffin de Scopoli.

Start from central Amopi and follow the dirt road N. Half way cross the highway and continue on the dirt road south of the restaurant.
