Especially in winter the bay of Wohlenberger Wiek is worth visiting with a high possibility to spot Fuligule milouinan. The birds come into the bay when it is windy to seek protection from the wind. Then you can see up to 1000 Fuligule milouinan and, with luck and patience, Grèbe esclavon and Grèbe à cou noir. Sometimes you can also see divers, such as Plongeon arctique. On the way there, you should also keep an eye on the fields, as there is a chance to spot Corneille mantelée, Cygne chanteur and maybe even Cygne de Bewick. For photographers this is not a very good place, because the birds are mostly up to 700m out at the sea.
In summer birds like Grand Gravelot, Courlis cendré and Moineau friquet can be observed. Harelde boréale, Macreuse noire, Eider à duvet, Harle huppé and Macreuse brune can be spotted too. You can park close to Wohlenberger Wiek, just north of the village of Hohen Wieschendorf. Click on the P in the map for directions. From the parking it is about a 600 meter walk to get to the best viewpoint. It is also possible to get to the viewpoint by bike.
