Description
In the large open area of the Vehnemoor typical marsh breeders such as Pipit farlouse, Gorgebleue à miroir, Bruant des roseaux, Grue cendrée, Bécassine des marais, Courlis cendré, Chevalier gambette and Petit Gravelot are common in spring and summer. There is also a small colony of Mouette rieuse and single pairs Goéland cendré. The forested area in the central part is a breeding place for Engoulevent d'Europe, Pouillot fitis and Pipit des arbres.
On spring migration parts that just have been recently renaturalised are also good spots for Waders. Most numerous species are Chevalier aboyeur, Chevalier culblanc, Chevalier sylvain, Grand Gravelot and Bécasseau de Temminck. From late April to August (best time is first decade of May) other Wader species such as Bécasseau variable, Bécasseau sanderling, Tournepierre à collier, Bécasseau cocorli and Bécasseau minute could be watched here.
In winter the area is used as a roosting site for huge numbers of Greater White-Fronted Geese & Bean Geese, Common Cranes and swans.

There are four ways to access the moor (see map). One road through the area could be used by car, others are forbidden to use and blocked with barriers. But those can be explored on foot.
