The Tevenerheide is a nice walking and birding area, located next to Nato airport Geilenkirchen. The Tevenerheide is characterized by alternation between vegetation and landscapes: moist or dry, dense forest or open field. Very good place to view the Alouette lulu quite close. Other birds in the area include Tarier pâtre, Chouette hulotte, Rougequeue à front blanc, Pic noir, Hypolaïs ictérine, Pie-grièche écorcheur, Alouette des champs and Bruant jaune.

"Heathland route" (purple) - 6 km, start: car park Scherpenseel. "Lakes route" (blue) - 7,1, km, start: car park Hohenbusch. "Big nature trail" (yellow) - 9,4 km, start: car parks Hohenbusch/Grotenrath/Scherpenseel. On the map below you see a 10 km circular walking trail.
