Description
Taubergießen is a floodplain wetland in the Upper Rhine region. It spans about 1,700 hectares, making it one of the largest protected areas in Baden-Württemberg. The wetland plays a crucial role in flood management and habitat conservation and is home to many birds.
In the alluvial forests breed Tourterelle des bois, Loriot d'Europe and Faucon hobereau. Near the Altrhein you can spot Sterne pierregarin, Grande Aigrette, and sometimes Aigrette garzette, Balbuzard pêcheur and Pygargue à queue blanche. In addition, many resting migratory birds can be observed like Canard siffleur, Sarcelle d'été, and Grèbe jougris.

Taubergießen is located close to the towns of Kappel-Grafenhausen, Rust, Rheinhausen and the French town of Rhinau. You can easily park at the Taubergießen Ecological Station. Press P on the map for directions to the parking. From there you can explore the area on foot or by bike if you stay on the paths. There are several marked trails.
