With multiple lakes, vast reedlands and wet meadows with multiple lookout towers and one larger observation tower Strengsee/Rietzersee is a reliable site for various sorts of reed- and waterbirds such as Canard pilet , Canard souchet , Canard siffleur , Canard chipeau . Also Gorgebleue à miroir , Panure à moustaches, Rémiz penduline are possible.
In autumn and winter it is an important site for geese, Grue cendrée, grebes and ducks. The large flocks of geese sometimes attract Pygargue à queue blanche . Other birds of prey include harriers, kites and buzzards.

The observation tower can best be reached via Netzen. Follow the signs "Beobachtungsturm" there is a parking area very close to the tower. From there walk to the tower which provides a nice view over the lake, and then follow the canal which goes to Rietzer See.
