Stausee Hengsen is a reservoir north of the course of the river Ruhr and south of Holzwickede. In the middle of the lake is a small island with a breeding colony of Grand Cormoran, whose concentrated excrement has largely destroyed the island's vegetation over the course of the years. Other birds you can encounter in the area are Oie cendrée, Bernache du Canada, Cygne tuberculé, Ouette d'Égypte, Canard colvert, Grèbe castagneux, Grèbe huppé and Fuligule morillon.
