The Stahlberg and Hölleberg area is dominated by well-preserved calcareous grasslands in different stages of succession and interesting for breeding birds of semi-open habitat, including Coucou gris, Caille des blés, Rossignol philomèle, Alouette des champs, Pic vert, Locustelle tachetée, Pie-grièche écorcheur, Pipit des arbres, Alouette lulu and Torcol fourmilier. Visitors are Milan noir and Milan royal, Cigogne noire, Grand Corbeau and Faucon hobereau. The area is also a well-known hotspot among botanists (orchids) and entomologists (e.g. butterflies).

The site is accessible by car, there is a parking possibility at the airfield Hölleberg. From there, several hiking routes lead along the plateau which offers a scenic view over the Diemel valley. The length of the route you see on the map is about 7 km.
