A small piece of alluvial forest (Auwald) that offers various birdwatching opportunities in the Rosental not far from the zoo in the north-west of Leipzig. You can observe the usual city park and forest birds as well as some water birds. For example Martin-pêcheur d'Europe, Troglodyte mignon, Grèbe castagneux, Fuligule morillon, Cygne tuberculé, Canard colvert, Rougegorge familier, Pinson des arbres, Pouillot véloce, Pic épeiche, Mésange charbonnière, Mésange bleue and more. And with a little bit of luck also a Garrot à oeil d'or which has been spotted repeatedly in the frog lake during winter and spring.
If you want to extend your bird walk, you can also make a detour to the Elster basin (Elsterbecken) and the Neue Luppe. There you have the opportunity to spot Canard siffleur, Grèbe castagneux, Héron cendré, Mouette rieuse, Bergeronnette grise etc.

I recommend coming on foot or by bike because the trip to the Northern Rosental itself is nice. By car you can park at the SG Olympia 1896 e. V. (limited parking possibilities depending on the day!). Click on the P in the map for directions to the parking. By public transport via “Stallbaumstraße” or “Am Mückenschlösschen/Leutzscher Allee”.
The walking route indicated on the map is about 4,5 km.
