Description
The Moosburger Stausee is a 2 km long reservoir on the Mittlere-Isar-Kanal, which is completely surrounded by a concrete dam. It attracts a large number of water birds, especially in winter. In addition to the common species such as Cygne tuberculé, Oie cendrée, Foulque macroule, Grèbe huppé, Harle bièvre, Canard chipeau, Fuligule milouin,Fuligule morillon, Grand Cormoran and Mouette rieuse, less common birds like Grèbe à cou noir, Oie rieuse, Garrot à oeil d'or, Canard siffleur, Nette rousse, Canard souchet, Harle piette and Mouette pygmée also overwinter on the lake. Rarities that can be seen quite regularly include Plongeon catmarin, Plongeon arctique,Grèbe jougris, Grèbe esclavon, Harle huppé, Fuligule milouinan, Harelde boréale and Macreuse brune.
In the eastern part of the lake there is a small island on which Goéland leucophée and Oie cendrée breed in the summer.
During migration, Sarcelle d'été, Sterne pierregarin, Guifette noire and Faucon hobereau can often be seen on and over the lake. When the water level is low, mudflats are sometimes exposed, and many waders can be observed there. In general, however, the nearby Echinger Stausee is more suitable for waders.

The Moosburger Stausee is difficult to reach by public transport. You can either cycle from Moosburg train station about 5 km to the lake or take bus 687 to the stop "Moosburg Uppenbornstraße". From there, however, you have to walk 500m along a busy road with no footpath. The lake is much easier to reach by car. It is located immediately west of the "Moosburg Nord" exit of the A92. There is a small car park at the southeast end of the lake. Press P on the map for directions. You can walk along the dam path along the lake shore.
