Description
Jröne Meerke (little green sea) is a small park with a pond at the north-western edge of the city of Neuss. It contains the only Western European colony of Oie des neiges. Depending on the season there are also numerous other waterfowl, such as Fuligule morillon, Canard colvert, Canard chipeau, Grèbe castagneux, Grand Cormoran, Gallinule poule-d'eau or Foulque macroule. There are many trees and a small forest in the park that host numerous songbirds, including Grive musicienne, Grive draine, Sittelle torchepot, Pinson des arbres, Chardonneret élégant, Verdier d'Europe, Rougegorge familier, Mésange bleue, Mésange charbonnière and many more. If you want to see the Oie des neiges, you should come in the early morning or before sunset as the geese often go out to the surrounding fields for feeding.
