Description

The Goldbergsee is a detention basin, separated into 3 sections. The southern part is filled with water throughout the year. The water here stays open most time of the winter, so it is good for hibernating waterfowl like Harle bièvre in bigger amounts. The middle part is emptied during winter, large mud surfaces then. Resting trees for Grand Cormoran.

The northern part is designed as a biotope. Water during the whole year, but shallow and quickly freezing during winter. Shallow with small mud surfaces and extended reed areas. Good place for breeding, resting and (when there's no ice) hibernating waterfowl, migrating shorebirds and marsh terns, like Guifette noire, in smaller numbers. But often interesting diversity, almost all european heron species documented as visitors, breeding Acrocephalus warblers, Gorgebleue à miroir, Tarier des prés and Tarier pâtre.

Important Bird Area for grassland birds "Glender Wiesen" north of Goldbergsee with important Bécassine des marais population for whole Upper Franconia.

Goldberg, a small forest on the hill between biotope and southern part of Goldbergsee with chances on Pic cendré and Pic mar.
