The oldest protected nature reserve in the Ludwigsburg district, with forest and open grass areas around a small baroque palace.
The Favoritepark is a protected nature reserve in Ludwigsburg. The park mainly consists of open grass fields and forest and surrounds Schloss Favorite, a small palace once used by the former dukes and kings of Württemberg as a ‘pleasure palace’ and hunting lodge.
Favoritepark is home to many common and uncommon forest birds, like Geai des chênes, Troglodyte mignon, Sittelle torchepot, Pic épeiche, Pic mar, Pic vert and more rarely; Pic noir.
Around May, there is a chance to see Gobemouche à collier. In summer, you can observe Rougequeue à front blanc, Loriot d'Europe, and Milan noir. With some luck, you might even hear or spot a Chouette hulotte or a Pic cendré.
Favoritepark has entrances on the north, south, and east sides. Parking and a public transport (S-Bahn) station are located near the north entrance. Press P on the map for directions to the parking area. For public transport, take the S4 to Favoritepark station.
The park can be crossed in under an hour. The main path is paved and well maintained. Leaving this path is not permitted in most areas due to the risk of falling branches. A small pond, the Hirschquelle, can be visited via an unpaved forest trail.
The park opens at 9 am and closes between 4 pm and 7 pm, depending on the time of year. Dogs are not allowed in the park.
If you’ve visited the Blühendes Barock palace gardens in Ludwigsburg, you can easily reach Favoritepark via the south entrance by crossing the bridge at the northern exit of Blühendes Barock. A small kiosk is located at the south entrance.
From the north entrance of Favoritepark, it's an easy walk down Seeschlossallee to Monrepos lake.
In addition to birds, the park is home to mouflon, european fallow deer, and chital.
