East of Mahlsdorf, the Erpe, an offshoot of the river Spree, meanders through the forest and meadow landscape close to the city. The Erpetal nature reserve is an area with many different habitats. There are woodlands, there is a small river, and there is a little lake. The area is really big, so different birds find their home there. You can encounter birds like Martin-pêcheur d'Europe, Oie cendrée, Chouette hulotte, Gallinule poule-d'eau, Mésange à longue queue, Chardonneret élégant, Verdier d'Europe, Tarin des aulnes, Grimpereau des jardins, Pic noir and Pic épeiche.
