Description
Alter Neckar is a nature reserve near the town of Esslingen. The area is an old river arm of the Neckar with adjacent meadows and fields. In the narrow belt of hardwood and softwood floodplains, there are still some relics of the original alluvial forest. The abundance of fish in the old river arm is attractive for Héron cendré and Martin-pêcheur d'Europe. The trees in the shady shore areas have Pic épeiche, Sittelle torchepot and Grimpereau des jardins. In winter you can see Harle bièvre on the river.

Alter Neckar is located between the city of Esslingen and the village of Altbach. You can get there easy by train (S-Bahn Zell station is close) or you can park on Am Alten Neckar street. Click on a P in the map for directions. You can explore the area on foot. Cycling is not allowed on the route.
