A vast Mediterranean stone steppe with very interesting and rare bird species in France like Outarde canepetière and Ganga cata.

Description

The Crau is one of the last mediterranean stone steppes and therefore holds many rare species. Sadly it is under high pressure of land-use and agriculture. Car testing areas and an airport have covered parts of the steppe in recent times. Nevertheless steppe breeding birds like the Outarde canepetière, Ganga cata and Alouette calandre still survive and can be seen in La Crau. In Winter you can also see flocks of Pluvier doré and Vanneau huppé or even Pipit de Richard.
