Description

The strip of land – you can't really call it an island – between the Canal de l'Est and the Moselle near the town of Charmes is a quiet, green oasis, less than a ten-minute walk from the centre of the town. I was here in September 2024 and heard Guêpier d'Europe several times a day. Given the many clay pits and huge piles of sand downstream of Charmes and the steep banks of the Moselle, the presence of is actually very logical. Also Martin-pêcheur d'Europe can be observed and near the dam (Barrage de Charmes) you can spot Cincle plongeur and Bergeronnette des ruisseaux.

As I only visited this area in autumn, I would appreciate it if other users give feedback on this area in other seasons and which birds can be spotted here. For this you can click on the 'Comment'-button at the bottom of this page. Thank you!
