Description
Saltfjärden is a small, almost overgrown, brackish bay surrounded by fields and rocky forests. The landscape is dominated by reed beds and extensive coastal meadows. The variability of the area's coastal vegetation and small water ponds and meandering ditches provide valuable habitats for many species of birds, plants and insects. Lots of different migrating birds ( Grue cendrée, geese, plovers) stop at Saltfjärden area every spring and autumn. Saltfjärden wetland is surrounded by fields and some old hardwood forest. In early summer it's also a good place to listen some warblers and crakes.

There's a parking area at the end of Saltfjärdintie. From there is ca. 300 meters to walk a small path to birdwatching tower. You can also watch birds of Saltfjärden from a couple of different bus stops at Porkkalantie (the best are Gunnarsby and Gunnarskulla).
