Description

Järvselja Nature Reserve wants to preserve the old forest of the area, consisting mainly of pine trees, including pine trees that are more than 360 years old. The nature reserve is important for several species of birds, including Chevêchette d'Europe, Pic à dos blanc, Gobemouche nain, Pic cendré and Grand Tétras. Within a small area the diversity of the woodland is very high. In the southeastern part the most impressive trees grow. They include up to 40 m-high and over 200 years-old. In some places moving around is complicated due to the old tree trunks lying on the ground, therefore a special wooden track has been constructed in the primeval forest quarter. 3 km further on a big observation tower of 28 meters height gives wide views of the area.
