Description
El Gouna is a resort on the Red Sea and an oasis in a surrounding desert. It is ideally placed for migrant birds and one rarely needs to leave the area to find some waders or other birds. The mangrove lagoon next to Abydos Marina is good on an incoming tide. There are mangrove and scrubby areas with some gardens. In 2022, 2000 new mangrove seedlings were planted. Among the birds you can encounter are Pluvier argenté, Gravelot à collier interrompu, Grand Gravelot, Vanneau éperonné, Courlis cendré, Goéland railleur, Goéland à iris blanc, Sterne caspienne, Aigrette garzette, Aigrette des récifs, Balbuzard pêcheur and Traquet motteux.
