Description
Nyord is a small island and besides the farmland, the island consists of 400 hectares of beach meadows. In winter these are flooded with seawater. These meadows are known as one of the best habitats for wading and swimming birds in Denmark. In spring, many birds breed here. From the tower you can observe waders here such as Chevalier aboyeur, Avocette élégante, Vanneau huppé, Chevalier gambette. There is also a chance of seeing Pygargue à queue blanche, Balbuzard pêcheur, Faucon pèlerin or Busard cendré. You can take a walk to the village past the Hyldevang Nature Center and see birds along the way such as Moineau friquet, Linotte mélodieuse, Bergeronnette printanière en Tarier pâtre. In the small harbour you can see Sterne pierregarin hunting for fish and maybe find a Cormoran huppé.
