Description

The Ayia Napa Water Treatment Plant is situated near the coast in the southeast of the island. The pools themself usually hold waders like Vanneau éperonné, Chevalier sylvain or Combattant varié as well as some waterfowl. The surrounding areas to the west and north are very attractive to migrants and especially good for shrikes and warblers. The endemic Fauvette de Chypre can be found here as well as species like Rollier d'Europe, Perdrix choukar and Francolin noir. Especially during autumn migration, there can be many migrating raptors like Buse féroce, Busard pâle and Faucon crécerellette seen soaring overhead.

Accès

Coming from Ayia Napa, follow the main road towards Cape Greco until you passed the sculpture park on your right. Shortly after that, turn left on the road towards the small Ayia Paraskevi chapel. Follow this smaller road a little further than the chapel until you reach a dirt track on your left, where you can park your car on the side of the road and continue on foot. If you see the gates of the Water Treatment Plant, you've gone to far and should turn around. Follow the P on the map for directions.

When walking on the dirt track, take the first turn right and after a short walk you will reach a point where you can see the pools of the Treatment Plant on your right. The scrub and the big rocks on your left should be interesting, too. You can turn left and continue further north if you like, but the track will run out at some point.
