The State of Rio de Janeiro has much to offer the visiting birder from the coastal Restinga to the high altitude peaks of the Atlantic rainforest rising to a rugged and impressive 2,400 metres. The vast range in altitude is reflected in the high number of bird species one can encounter within the State. The State has in excess of 750 species, with over 100 endemics. Most of these endemics are to be found in the Atlantic forest. Sítio Cantinho das Garças is a resort on with its own forest and ecological reserve within the property.
