Description
The Platwijers is a nature reserve of approximately 100 hectares. The area consists of fishing ponds and pastures. The reserve is mainly known for its bird wealth. Numerous species find a suitable rest and breeding ground here. Most paths are closed to the public, for the protection of birds. But there isa very nice bird hide and also a birdwatch tower in this beautiful and quiet area. Among the nice birds you can see here are Balbuzard pêcheur, Blongios nain, Butor étoilé, Bihoreau gris and Martin-pêcheur d'Europe.

The Platwijers is located west of the town of Zonhoven. Parking is available in the Zandstraat opposite the Heidestrand entrance. Click on the P in the map for directions. Walk from here.
