Description
Pikhaken is a new nature reserve. Before the creation of this 30 hectare wet area, Pikhaken consisted of agricultural fields. The fields have been excavated, so that the area is lower and therefore wet in the winter period. Ideal to see foraging waders from the dike. There is currently no bird hide, although this will be installed in the future.

Nederlands: Pikhaken is een nieuw natuurgebied gecreeërd voor Râle des genêts en Grote Pimpernel (Sanguisorba officinalis). Het gebied is nat in de winter en droog in de zomer. Voor de creatie van dit 30 hectare zomping gebied bestond Pikhaken enkel uit landbouwakkers. De akkers zijn uitgegraven, waardoor het gebied lager ligt en dus nat is in de winterperiode. Ideaal om van de wandeldijk foeragerende steltlopers te zien. Momenteel is er nog geen vogelkijkwand geplaatst, al komt dit wel in de toekomst.

The Pikhaken area is not accessible, but you can visit it along the dike of the river Dijle. In addition, you can view the hay field and adjacent forest along a lower-lying hiking trail, Streepkensdreef. Parking is best found in the center of the village of Rijmenam, as well as local cafes and restaurants. From Rijmenam it is about 700 meters to the area.

Nederlands: Het gebied is niet toegankelijk, maar kan je wel bezichtigen langs de wandeldijk van de rivier Dijle. Daarnaast kan je langs een lager gelegen wandelweg, Streepkensdreef, het hooiland en aanpalend bos bekijken. Parking vind je het best in het centrum van Rijmenam, als ook lokale cafés en restaurants. Vanuit Rijmenam is het zo'n 700 meter lopen tot het gebied.

Pikhaken is located right next to the Pikhakendonk nature reserve (for more information see bird area "Pikhakendonk"). As a result, the current Pikhakendonk cultural landscape will be strengthened with the Pikhaken wetland area. Thanks to the combination of wetland and hay meadows, this is ideal as a new habitat for Pie-grièche écorcheur.
