Description
Schuddebeursze is a nature reserve of 25 hectares. In the First World War, the area was on the front line and there was also German activity in the Second World War. A number of bunkers, trenches and ammunition depots from WWII testify to this. The dunes in the Schuddebeurze are so old that the lime that was once present there has completely leached out. Birds you may encounter in the area are Aigrette garzette, Bécassine sourde, Courlis cendré, Vanneau huppé, Bouscarle de Cetti, Faucon hobereau and Perdrix grise.

Nederlands: Schuddebeurze is een van de weinige gebieden aan de Vlaamse kust met een bodem van oude, ontkalkte duinen. In de Eerste Wereldoorlog lag het gebied aan de frontlinie en ook in de Tweede Wereldoorlog was er Duitse activiteit. Getuige daarvan een aantal bunkers, loopgraven en munitiedepots uit WO II. Dit natuurgebied van 25 hectare wordt door Natuurpunt onderhouden. Zij organiseren regelmatig wandelingen, maar daarnaast is op bepaalde paden het gebied ook vrij toegankelijk. De duinen in de Schuddebeurze zijn zo oud dat de kalk die er ooit aanwezig was, volledig is uitgeloogd. Vogels die je in het gebied kunt tegenkomen zijn Aigrette garzette, Bécassine sourde, Courlis cendré, Vanneau huppé, Bouscarle de Cetti, Faucon hobereau en Perdrix grise.

for walkers: The site is located on the route of the Schuddebeurze walking route (12.5 km). For cyclists: The cycling junction network runs over the Schuddebeurzeweg and numerous cycling routes such as the 'De diken en gullies route' (38 km) or the 'Freddy Maertens route'. To visit the site, take the Bamburgstraat at the intersection (Vijfwege) towards the canal. After approx. 450 m turn left into the dirt path. Bicycle stands are provided in the access zone to the command bunker. By car: If you come by car, keep in mind that you cannot park nearby. The road between the bunkers is also not accessible to motorized traffic! There is a parking lot at the sports hall De Bamburg, Baronstraat 25, 8434 Middelkerke. To reach the site from there, enter the Bamburgstraat from the car park and continue past the intersection (Vijfwege). After approx. 450 m turn left into the footpath.

Nederlands: Voor wandelaars: De bunkersite Bamburg ligt op het traject van de Schuddebeurzewandeling (12,5 km). Voor fietsers: Het fietsknooppuntennetwerk loopt over de Schuddebeurzeweg en tal van fietsroutes zoals de 'De dijken en geulen route' (38 km) of de 'Freddy Maertensroute'. Voor een bezoek aan de bunkersite, neem je aan het kruispunt (Vijfwege) de Bamburgstraat richting de vaart. Sla na ca. 450 m links het aarden pad in. Op de toegangszone aan de commandobunker zijn fietsstanden voorzien. Met de auto: Kom je met de auto, hou er dan rekening mee dat je niet vlakbij kunt parkeren. Het wegje tussen de bunkers is ook niet toegankelijk voor gemotoriseerd verkeer! Er is een parking aan de sporthal De Bamburg, Baronstraat 25, 8434 Middelkerke. Om van daar de bunkersite te bereiken, ga je vanaf de parking de Bamburgstraat in en vervolg je ze na het kruispunt (Vijfwege). Sla na ca. 450 m links het wandelpad in.
