Description
Beninksberg is a nature reserve that has been protected nationally since 1977. During a walk you will find a variety of biotopes here: birch and oak forest, heathland, grassland, sunken roads, wooded edges and bushes. This is not only interesting for forest birds, but you will also find numerous heat-loving reptiles, butterflies and mammals such as deer and martens.

Nederlands: Beninksberg is een natuurreservaat gelegen op een ijzerzandsteenheuvel met een mozaïek-landschap van bos, weides, heide en prachtige panoramische uitzichten. Het bos is sinds 1977 landelijk beschermd. Tijdens een wandeling tref je hier een verscheidenheid aan biotopen: berken- en eikenbos, heide, grasland, holle wegen, houtkanten en ruigtes. Niet enkel voor bosvogels is dit interessant, maar ook vind je hier talrijke warmteminnende reptielen, vlinders en zoogdieren zoals ree en marters.

The car park is located on the corner of Blauwmolenstraat and Klein-Vlasselaar. Click on the P in the map for directions. Train travelers can reach this area from Leuven to Wezemaal. At the station you can take the bus, which stops at Blauwmolenstraat. There are no restaurants in the immediate vicinity.

Nederlands: De parking is gelegen op de hoek van Blauwmolenstraat en Klein-Vlasselaar. Klik op de P in de kaart voor een routebeschrijving. Treinreizigers kunnen dit gebied bereiken vanuit Leuven naar Wezemaal. Aan het station kan je de lijnbus nemen, deze stopt tot aan de halte met Blauwmolenstraat. In de onmiddellijke omgeving is er geen eetgelegenheid.

A walk of almost 4 km takes you through and around the area. Follow the signs: 68 - 165 - 166 - 67 - 68. On the hill you have some beautiful panoramic viewpoints over the area. Well worth a look. The bird species list below shows the observations from 2022 to 2023 (dated 19/06/2023)
