Description
Over 240 bird species have been found at the Güssinger Fischteiche, making it one of the best places in southern Burgenland for birdwatching. The site is also easily accessible from the town and can be incorporated with a visit to the well-known castle nearby. Highlights include breeding Fuligule milouin and Grèbe huppé, a heron colony with Héron cendré and Grande Aigrette and summer migrants including Blongios nain and Locustelle luscinioïde. In spring the site attracts waders such as Échasse blanche as well as passage birds such as Mouette pygmée and Guifette noire. The site also has some woodland, which contains Pic noir, Gros-bec casse-noyaux, Pic cendré, and there is a chance of Pygargue à queue blanche.

You can park in the main town car parks and walk across the road. Click on the P in the map for directions. The circular route indicated on the map is about 6 km. The paths in between the fishponds themselves are private, but birdwatchers are tolerated and local walkers often use these too. These paths offer the best views of the ponds.
