Coastal headland bordered by suburbs of Noosa Heads and Sunshine Beach.
Coastal headland with extensive track network through beaches, rocky headlands, heathland, melaleuca swamps, eucalypt woodland & poclets of rainforest. Great views from the coastal track, good for Australasian Gannet in winter as well as spotting whales, dolphins & turtles. Common birds of the coastal heathlands and forests include White-cheeked Honeyeater and Little Wattlebird with Black-breasted Buttonquail occassinally reported.
Points can be okay for seawatching in the right conditions with mostly Wedge-tailed Shearwater and Short-tailed Shearwater plus possibility of Jaegers, Sooty Tern, Brown Noddy and Lesser Frigatebird. Denser forest and pockets of rainforest hold rainforest species such as Large-billed Scrubwren, Rose-crowned Fruit-Dove & Green Catbird.
Main carpark is at the end of Park Rd reached from Noosa main beach, however this and the adjacent streets can get extremely busy especially when there is good swell on pulling in the surfers. Alternatively you can park in the Sunshine Beach area and access from that side. Click on a P in the map for directions or coordinates.
The main coastal track connects the headlands, coves and beaches between Noosa Heads and Sunshine Beach and is well graded though hilly and steep in areas (especially the section from Sunshine Beach up the headland to Alexandria Bay). The initial section from Noosa Heads past Tea Tree Bay to Dolphin Point is now asphalt.
There are also extensive graded gravel / sand tracks inland from the coastal track, notably the Tanglewood Track which can be used to form a return loop with the coastal track from their junction around Hells Gates. The circular walk indicated on the map is about 7,5 km.
