Lake claremont is an attractive public park with a seasonal lake, surrounded by bushland and grassland.
Lake Claremont is an attractive park in the western suburbs of Perth. It consists of a lake and some bush land on the western and northern site. In summer the lake dries completely. Many swamp birds can be seen from the observation platform during winter and spring.
The surrounding treed and bush areas are habited by Galah, Laughing Kookaburra, Silvereye, Red Wattlebird and more.
Swamp birds you can expect to see include Australian Shelduck, Pink-eared Duck, White-faced Heron, Pied Stilt and Straw-necked Ibis.
As the lake dries in late spring/early summer mud flats will appear. Sought after metro area birds that can be seen then include all three metro area crakes, Red-kneed Dotterel and Red-necked Avocet.
The lake is accessible by car, train or bike. Parking spots are south and east of the lake. There are several bus stops around the lake, as well as a train station at the southern end, from there it is a 7 minute walk to the lake.
The lake itself is surrounded by a 2,4 km walking trail, which is mostly sealed or for some parts a wide unpaved path. The trail can be done walking or cycling. Public toilets can be found in the area as well.
