Stithians Reservoir West of the small town of Stithians and South of the town of Redruth in West Cornwall.
Stithians Reservoir has an enviable record of sightings of 'ultra' rarities, including many Nearctic wader species. It has waterside paths, that can get very muddy during periods of prolonged rain, the area is at quite high altitude and has a very open landscape that can get very windy at times. There are three bird hides, two to the South and one to the North.
Either head South from Redruth on the B3297 and look for road signs to Stithians Reservoir on the left. From Penryn head West on the A394, soon after Herniss look for road signs to Carnkie, look for signs to Stithians Reservoir on the right.
Autumn migration is better for waders especially after prolonged periods without rain that ensures good muddy edges. This is one of the best sites in Cornwall for wintering Wild Swans and Grey Geese. BE AWARE this reservoir has boating and fishing.
