Description

Both WWT Stewart Marsh and Bridgewater Bay Nature Reserve (Steart Point) see separate entries, is just across the River Parrett from the extremely busy Summer destination of Burnham-on-Sea. The mouth of the River Brue often has a high tide roost, road parking on The Esplanade is free from October-March. Park at South end to be close to river mouth or use free car park at Apex Leisure Park (press P on map). Whilst in sea front area be sure to check beach (near high tide) and bay for birds, Apex Leisure Park has lakes/woodland/reedbeds, be sure to visit this area as a lapinkirvinen was found here as well as taigauunilintu and keltahemppo. silkkiuikku, rytikerttunen, ruokokerttunen and silkkikerttunen are more commonly seen.

For South side of River Brue park in Clyce Road/Quantock road, DO NOT BLOCK ACCESS (Press P on map), cross over river by way of sluice footpath at Western end of Clyce Road, turn Right and follow river to mouth checking fields and wet areas for birds. suopöllö can often be seen hunting in this area. Using a telescope you can check the River Parrett as far as Steart Marsh and Steart Point. You can either walk all the way to the Huntspill River or drive South out of Burnham-on-Sea on the A38 (Press P on Map for Huntspill River parking - 3 spaces), tornipöllö are often seen hunting in this area. At very high tides birds roost and continue to feed in this area.

Access

For Burnham-on-Sea Promenade/Sea Front Parking, leave M5 motorway at junction 22 signed Weston-S-Mare/Burnham-on-Sea/Bristol (South)/Airport A38. At next roundabout take second exit signed Burnham-on-Sea/Berrow B3140. On approaching the town at next roundabout take second exit signed Brean/Berrow/Town Centre B3140, at next mini roundabout take second exit signed Brean/Berrow B3140/Sea Front/Town Centre, next turn Left signed Sea Front/Town Centre/Toilets just before Church into Victoria Street. Continue on this road and turn Right (unsigned) into Vicarage Road that leads to Sea Front Promenade. Turn Left at next junction and drive to near end of this road and park (Pay and Display - April to September Only). Either walk to close by Apex Leisure Park or use parks free car park (press P in map). For Brue River or Huntspill River press P on map.
