Description

Forest of the base of the hill at the start of the climb is host to usual woodland birds e.g. puukiipijä, pähkinänakkeli, käpytikka. At night lehtopöllö can also be heard. Small common birds such as tits and thrushes are frequent. leppälintu and harmaasieppo are possible during mid summer (June).

The top of the hill is a plateau covered by heather. There is trig point and some rocky outcroppings that can be sat on for a picnic. niittykirvinen, mustapäätasku and kivitasku can be found during the summer. During winter vihervarpunen are likely and punakylkirastas during migration.

The hill is a good vantage point for stargazing as well and the area is managed by National Trust.

Access

Bosley Cloud is about 2 km east of Congleton. There is a large carpark at Timbersbrook Picnic Site, where there is also a bus stop serviced during the week (K80 from Congleton), or there is a lot of roadside parking on the road that goes around the western side of The Cloud. There are 2 or 3 car parking spaces quite close to the summit off Red Lane, but these are often full. Click a P on the map for directions.
