The Kaltburner Riet is a natural pearl in the Linth plain. The wet conditions attract many birds.
The Kaltbrunner Riet lies like an island in the agricultural area of the Linth plain. It is the last remnant of the marshes that once shaped the area between Lake Walen and Lake Zurich. Especially in spring and autumn, during the bird migration season, many special birds can be observed here in the Kaltbrunner Riet and the adjacent Benkner Riet. It is one of the last breeding areas of the pensastasku in the Swiss lowlands.
Arrival by train is possible via Uznach or Benken. There are also various parking facilities, although these are not available in large numbers. Click on a P in the map for directions. The Kaltbrunner Riet offers two observation towers and the adjacent Benkner Riet one. An information pavilion (with limited opening times) and an observation wall are also available. The circular route indicated on the map is about 8 km.
