Restored floodplain of the Sarine/Saane River which attracts a variety of wetland and farmland birds.
The Auried consists of a mosaic of habitats in the former floodplain of the Sarine/Saane River and this attracts a variety of wetland and farmland birds. It is especially important as a breeding place for pikkuhaikara, töyhtöhyyppä and rastaskerttunen in Central Switzerland. Several isohaarahaukka and haarahaukka (summer only) always patrol the area. Although interesting throughout the year, it is especially rewarding during migration, when a variety of waders, passerines and the occasional sääksi (kalasääski) stop over.
The Auried area is best accessed by car. There are two places where one can park. Otherwise it is reachable from Laupen train station via a pleasant walk along the river. One best explores the area by foot.
