Description

Ljusfors lies in the northern part of Östgötaslätten, a large Swedish plain. It is surrounded by large amounts of forest. The coastal meadows are often visited by flocks of tukkasotka, kalalokki, harmaalokki, merilokki, naurulokki, telkkä, sinisorsa, kyhmyjoutsen, laulujoutsen, nokikana, isokoskelo (some times up to 500) harmaahaikara and merimetso in the open not frozen parts of the lake. Smaller amounts of rarer wintering waterfowl like pikku-uikku, tukkakoskelo, uivelo, silkkiuikku, and kuningaskalastaja.

In the oak meadows tits, woodpeckers, finches winter along with common winter birds like punatulkku, tilhi, urpiainen, and järripeippo. On the fields geese and swans can be found. merihanhi, kanadanhanhi, and metsähanhi have all been sighted.

During spring and autumn the coastal meadows are filled with large amounts of gulls, waders, passerine birds and terns. liro, punajalkaviklo, rantasipi, töyhtöhyyppä, suokukko, taivaanvuohi, pikkutylli, and kuovi are all observed although there are often not many wadingbirds.

During spring rains hundreds of kalatiira and naurulokki could be forced on the lake. Along with smaller amounts of harmaalokki, kalalokki, merilokki and lapintiira.

In the spring and summer large amounts of passerine birds can be heard in the forests. Although mostly common birds can be found, also rarer birds like pikkusieppo, pikkutikka and nokkavarpunen can be observed.

On the islands rastaskerttunen, naurulokki (large colony), tukkasotka, harmaasorsa, valkoposkihanhi, merihanhi, punajalkaviklo and merimetso likely breed. Common passerines on the coastal meadows are vuorihemppo (rare and only during the migration), hemppo, keltavästäräkki, tikli, niittykirvinen and kiuru.

Many species of dabbling ducks can also be found during this season like tavi, haapana, harmaasorsa, Lapasorsa, and heinätavi. Along the river virtavästäräkki and kuningaskalastaja breed, and koskikara can be found.
