Description
Just outside the village of Vegas Altas extensive rice fields start. The fields receive important winter concentrations of Kurki and several species of waders like mustapyrstökuiri, tylli, pitkäjalka, kapustarinta, pikkusirri, valkoviklo, suokukko, suosirri, rantasipi, metsäviklo, taivaanvuohi and liro. During the migratory passages, you can also see other wintering birds such as sinirinta, vuorikirvinen or pajusirkku. Other birds you can spot in the area are etelänisolepinkäinen, punatiikeripeippo, vahanokka and harjalintu. Also many wintering birds of prey (sometimes in high densities) like ruskosuohaukka, sinisuohaukka, isohaarahaukka, liitohaukka, ampuhaukka and suopöllö. Best times for a visit are winter and spring, from November to May. From June to October it can be very quiet on the fields.
