Description

Formerly the Sèquia Major area had some extraordinary wetlands, but in the Middle Ages they were a hotbed of malaria, so the Poblet monastery monks built the Sèquia Major to empty the ponds. There are seal and wolf data. More recently otter in the 70s, but those times are gone. Finally the most interesting habitat was in the same main canal, where apart from birds it housed an endemic fish, fartet in catalan (Aphanius iberus). Today, part of the Sèquia Major has been preserved and wetlands that form ponds on the golf course have been recovered. The species of interest are typical of wetlands, and in winter there are dozens of punasotka. Much of the site is inaccessible unless you are a golfer. Otherwise you have the option to go up to a viewpoint located at the SE end.
