Description

Laguna de Barlovento is a large freshwater reservoir in the northeastern part of the island of La Palma. Its a great spot to observe rare waterbird migrants (if present of course), common waterbird species and songbirds in the surrounding thickets.

The reservoir itself is used by large flocks of gulls, being mainly etelänharmaalokki and small numbers of selkälokki. Small numbers of nokikana are also present on the water. With a bit of luck, rare species of duck can be spotted on the lake due to its location and the presence of a large freshwater body. Species that have been observed are amerikantukkasotka and tavi. The shores are great for species like valkoviklo and virtavästäräkki.

The surrounding thickets are good for typical island species, like afrikansinitiainen, kanariantiltaltti, samettipääkerttu, kanariankirvinen and kanarianhemppo.
