Description

For a modest entrance fee, Palheiro Gardens provide convenient opportunities to see several Madeiran landbirds including madeirankyyhky (we saw at least 8), madeiranhippiäinen, Madeira Chaffinch, madeirankiitäjä as well as more widespread species such as mustapääkerttu and tuulihaukka. The gardens are not as expansive as those at Monte but this is a particularly accessible site for madeirankyyhky, making for relaxed birding with plenty for non-birding family and friends to enjoy. Cardinal and other butterflies are plentiful while there are Perez Frogs in the ornamental ponds. There's a tea-shop and WCs.
