Description
Jeziorsko Nature Reserve covers the southern part of the Jeziorsko dam reservoir on the Warta River - the second largest dam reservoir in Poland - up to the line connecting the village of Jeziorsko with the village of Brodnia, located in the Pęczniew commune and the town of Warta. In the period April - June, the water levels are highest, reaching an area of 4300 ha. Then the water slowly subsides, revealing large tracts of the muddy bottom of the reservoir. The minimum area in the period November - December is only 1700 ha. The maximum depth is about 2.5 m. The task of the reserve is to protect the shallow, backwater part in the south of the Jeziorsko reservoir together with the refuges of many water and wetland birds. Endangered species of birds nest here, often in very large numbers. The backwater zone is overgrown with willow thickets. Among the birds you can see in the area are many species of ducks, geese and waders, but also birds like merikotka, Kurki, töyhtöhyyppä, naurulokki, aroharmaalokki, mustatiira, valkosiipitiira, valkoposkitiira, kalatiira, Kuhankeittäjä and mustahaikara.
