Description

Jakobsbakken is surrounded by beautiful nature and forest. I stayed here for a month in the winter and saw hiiripöllö almost every day. On some days several with a peak of 7 in 1 day. Probably easier to spot in the winter, but I suspect they will also be easy to find in the spring/summer. More towards Sulitjelma we also saw teeri almost every day and metso once. In addition, the more common species such as punatulkku and hömötiainen. Also good chances to see kiiruna.

Details

Access

Jakobsbakken is a small, clustered village situated south of Lake Langvatnet, and approximately 8 kilometers south of the village of Sulitjelma. You can park at various spots along the road between Sulitjelma (1) and Jakobsbakken (2) or in Jakobsbakken itself. The owls can already be spotted from the road, otherwise you have to go a bit further into nature. We saw most owls within a 10-minute walk from the only road.
