Description
A small wetland surrounded by wet grasslands on the Westfriesedijk. Ideal for meadow birds and other birds that like puddle-wet conditions. From the road you can observe birds like mustapyrstökuiri, punajalkaviklo, avosetti, kapustahaikara, meriharakka, kalatiira, tukkasotka, ristisorsa, Lapasorsa and pikkutylli.

Nederlands: Een klein wetland omgeven door natte graslanden aan de Westfriesedijk in de Neskaagpolder. Ideaal voor weidevogels en andere vogels die houden van plas-dras omstandigheden. Vanaf de weg kun je vogels als mustapyrstökuiri, punajalkaviklo, avosetti, kapustahaikara, meriharakka, kalatiira, tukkasotka, ristisorsa, Lapasorsa en pikkutylli observeren.

Access
The area is a stone's throw from Schagen and can best be reached on foot or by bike. The small wetland is easy to oversee from the Westfriesedijk. Via the Varkenspad you can also take a 2 km circular walk along the area via a small hand ferry and the Kleinsmerwiel (see the map), but please note: the Varkenspad is closed during the extended breeding season (from 15/2 to 1/7) .

Nederlands: Het gebied ligt op een steenworp afstand van Schagen en is te voet, met de fiets en met de auto te bereiken. Wandelen of fietsen is de beste optie. Het kleine wetland is goed te overzien van de Westfriesedijk. Via het Varkenspad kan ook een rondwandeling van 2 km langs het gebied gemaakt worden via een trekpontje en het Kleinsmerwiel (zie de kaart), maar let op: het Varkenspad is wel gesloten tijdens verlengd broedseizoen (van 15/2 tot 1/7).
